It is great to have hobbies and share them with your partner. It is one of the ways you get to know your partner better. However, there are certain habits which can be financially addictive. Talking about financially addictive hobbies, these are the hobbies that are expensive if they occur repeatedly. They may not seem so expensive on a stand-alone basis, but the fact that they are addictive makes them expensive. Gambling is probably the worse of such habits. Whoever starts gambling, they start it as a pastime or as an interest. However, they get sucked into it so bad that they can’t easily get out of it. What’s worse is that the more you gamble, the more money you tend to lose. If you are winning, you would use the money you won to gamble further and make more money. If you lose, you add more of your own money hoping to win. This is how it sucks out your finances and leaves you without money. Substance abuse can also fall under the category of financially addictive hobbies. If you consider smoking, it may not seem as an expensive thing to do. However, if you get addicted to smoking, you tend to spend more of your funds on your habit. This gets worse with time. Same is the case with alcohol and drugs. If you get a hang of them, you will keep spending money on them.
Thus, you should know if your spouse is into any of these habits. This is not a absolute reason that will lead to financial infidelity, but it can definitely be one if you’re not cautious. If you figure out that your spouse is into any of these addictions, try and get them out of it as soon as possible. You may be aware of their spending on these matters initially, but you may lose track and they may start spending money on these habits. Take an example of gambling. You may initially have knowledge about the money being spent on gambling by your spouse. However, if it develops into a habit, they would want to spend more on it, and knowing that you won’t let them do it, they’ll start spending the money secretly. This may cause a rift in your relationship. Hence, you should always keep a check if your partner has inculcated financially addictive hobbies and if they have, you should make sure that you help them get out of it successfully.
