If you’re married with your partner for a long time, you claim to know them to a great extent. You are familiar with their mannerisms, interests, hobbies and routine. You are aware of almost all the articles they own and the new ones that they bought. However, if you notice that there are various new things in the house that your spouse is using and you have no idea where they bought it from, it may give way to suspicion. You may find your spouse with a new phone without you having knowledge of her buying it. You may find them having food from the most expensive restaurant on a regular basis. You may find them with loads of new clothes without you having any knowledge about it. It is never an issue if your spouse makes purchases without letting you know. You are to have all the information about their buying history, but it isn’t so if they buy more and more expensive items without your knowledge. If both of you share a card, you should know where all the stuff is coming from. If you observe your spouse making expenses in spite of the two of you sharing a card and your card is not showing any transactions, there is a room for doubt. There may be a possibility of them having another card without your knowledge from where the expenses are incurred. They may also have an alternative source of borrowing funds that you have no idea about. Even if you are not sharing a card, it might lead to suspicion as you are not aware about the money spent out of the house. As the two of you live together and have to take care of all the expenses together, it matters if the expenses are increasing and you are not aware of it. This may affect your budget, but more than that it is about sharing of information. If you are spending a lot of money and are hiding the fact from your spouse, it is not a healthy way to manage finances. if you end up with a credit you are not able to take care of, both of you will have to face the brunt of it.
Thus, it is always advisable to inform your spouse about the areas you are spending money. You should take equal responsibility of maintaining the family budget and make sure that both of you have knowledge about each other’s financial activities.
